JUMP TO LIGHTSPEED!!!!!!!!!!

The basics of space travel in Star Wars require huge amounts of handwaving for it to work. This will haver real science considerations but I'll warn you, this will fall on the soft sci-fi spectrum of things. First, jumping to light speed is not enough to travel around the galaxy. Just for comparison, the closest star system to ours is 4.37 light-years away. Even if we don't know the distance between planets in the movies, it would be odd to have a galaxy with a cluster of extremely close star systems. But assuming that you can jump to light speed, ignoring any relativistic side-effects for now, it can be extremely useful. Travel between planets in the same star system would take minutes and it would make Poe Dameron's "lightskipping" make sense in Rise of Skywalker. Whatever is the tracking system that they use to track each other (radar, sight, whatever), the signal of the sensor picks up travels at light speed at max. So short bursts of light speed would b

The Embodiement of the Rule Of Cool: Lightsabers

So, lightsabers. They're a problem. They're cool, but we are used to them, but they're a staple of the franchise, but they make no sense. What to do? First and foremost. I'll just assume that the technology to restrain energy/plasma/whatever and keeps the user safe from the heat generated by the thing exists. So also not only force fields but also thermal barriers are a technology that should be taken into account in the series. It could make sense to create a factory inside an active volcano, for instance. The concept of lightsaber  it's not so odd, if you think that Jedi go across the galaxy and would want to be able to cut through just about anything, including super-hard materials that they have never encountered. But why not lightspears, lightshields, morphing weapons, etc? The answer is two-fold. The first aspect is cultural. In the first and last trilogy, active force-users are very rare so there's not a booming lightsaber industry. In the prequels,

How to go about remaking the entire Nonology?

So, Star Wars. Basic plot of Good vs Evil. Fun romp through space. Iconic imagery, sound effects and score. But a worldbuilding and characterization mess. How about try to make it more coherent? Since it's dawn as a copy of Flash Gordon, the franchise has no true pure fountain of canon. Like many great works of the past (the Bible included) it suffered a great deal of massaging and retrofitting. So I don't mind to throw my hat in the ring. Am I a competent writer? No. Am I talented in any kind of storytelling, visual or otherwise? No. Am I even smart? HELL NO. But I feel like doing this, so why the hell not? So, how will I go about it? Main points of interest: The nine films are the focus, other material might be looked upon for reference only; The Force will be looked upon as a hard magic system as it's used by it's various praticants, but will remain mysterious regarding it's origins, or if it has a will of it's own; As far as genre, it will be trea
